Mary Smith

Mary Evelyn Smith, formerly of Mariposa, passed away peacefully on July 6, after a two and a half year battle with cancer, with her family and friends by her side.

Mary was born April 11, 1934 to Arthur and Margret Grace Ford. She moved to California in 1950 with her husband, Donald Smith, living in Mariposa from 1994 to 2003. After losing her husband in 2003, she moved to Drain, Ore., where she lived out the rest of her life, surrounded by countless family and friends and church.

Mary had a profound relationship with God, and it showed in the way she lived her life. Everyone who knew Mary loved her, and the void that she leaves behind as she walks with the Lord can be filled with memories of her love, her hugs, her wisdom and laughter.

Mary was preceeded in death by her parents, husband, son, Darrel Smith; and niece, Alice Telford.

She is survived by a sister, Twyla Mae Jones; daughter, Sharon K. Hair; seven grandchildren, Donald Costa, Jamie Costa, April Costa, Amber Green, Dustin Smith, Jimmy Smith and Crystal Bass; 20 great-grandchildren, Nathon Costa, Landon Costa, Isabella Costa, Conner Costa, Cohen Costa, Aaliyah Costa, Evan Costa, Austin Lyman, Alisa Lyman, Christian Green, Cameron Green, Colin Green, Zachary Smith, Ashlynne Smith, Marcus Smith, Sierra Smith, Leland Smith, Christopher Bass, Elizabeth Bass and Kaylee Bass.

She also leaves a lot of other friends and family-- too many to mention. There are not enough words to explain the impact she has made on the people around her and how deeply she will be missed.
