Mariposa County gets piece of sidewalk funding pie

California's Department of Transportation has awarded Mariposa County $448,000 for improved sidewalks near schools in town.

Caltrans announced the awards on Thursday, July 5. Mariposa County is one the the top grant recipients in the department's District 10. Of eight grant recipients, only Angels Camp received more funding with a total of $450,000.

The funds will be used to install sidewalks, crosswalks and signs near Mariposa County High School and Mariposa Elementary School.

The funding is part of $48.5 million awarded statewide as part of Caltrans' Safe Routes to School Program.
