Courthouse gets second opinion

Jill Ballinger/GAZETTE EDITOR
The Mariposa County Courthouse’s maintenance problems may not be as serious as previously believed. Mariposa County Administrative Officer (CAO) Rick Benson said the situation is “not nearly as dire as first reported.” There are some new issues, however. For one, the weight of the books in the law library is causing undue stress on the building. Even with the new report, which Superior Court Judge Walton says has not yet been provided to him, years of deferred maintenance are catching up with the iconic building. It still needs some repairs. “Whatever the case is, there is a lot of work to be done, and we are still going to have to move,” Walton explained. For the full story, see the July 5 edition of the Mariposa Gazette.
