Fire threatens structures

Jill Ballinger/GAZETTE EDITOR

CAL FIRE has issued an initial report on the vegetation fire burning off Hornitos Road. Some structures are threatened, but evacuations have not been ordered. At this time, 75 acres have burned, not 300 as initially reported.

The fire continues to burn at a moderate rate of spread. Officials have determined a "trigger point" at which the fire would cause evacuations.

There are 16 CAL FIRE engines, two battalion chiefs, three helicopters, two air tankers, one air attack, two dozers and two crews working the suppresssion effort. Mariposa County Fire also has resources at the scene.

Old Toll Road remains closed at Hornitos Road and at Pendola Gardens Road. Mariposa County Sheriff's officers continue to notify residents of pending developments.

Updates will be provided as information is received.
