Wild weather comes and goes

Jill Ballinger/GAZETTE EDITOR

Yesterday morning dawned as a sunny, late spring day. By noon, however, change was in the air.

By late afternoon, the skies opened up, thunder boomed and gutters became little rivers. Heavy rain pounded for a couple of hours before the sun returned in the evening.

In the high country, enough snow fell to prompt the closure of the Tioga Road and Glacier Point Road. Park officials said the road was covered with several inches of snow before sunset.

At this time, both Tioga and Glacier Point Roads remain closed due to snow. Park officials have not given an estimated time for reopening of either road.

For road information, travelers should call 372-0200 (within Yosemite National Park) or 1-800-427-7623 (California highway information.)
