Sheriff warns of telephone solicitation scam

Today, Wednesday, June 6, 2012 the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office has been alerted by a local business of a telephone solicitor asking it to donate money to a "Police Service Yearbook."  The caller is asking businesses to send the money via UPS, reported Sheriff Doug Binnewies.

This appears to possibly be related to telephone fraud and can be researched on the Internet.

Telephone solicitors persuade thousands annually to contribute to what are depicted as charities helping local law enforcement and dead officers' families. But those dollars often never reach their promised beneficiaries.

Local law enforcement along with federal officials investigates fraudulent soliciting, and urges the public to be extremely skeptical of any telephone requests for charities.
