Fire consumes Don Pedro home

An early morning fire razed a Lake Don Pedro area home today. Mariposa County Fire Chief Jim Wilson said Mariposa County and Cal Fire firefighters responded to a structure fire at 2973 Barrett Cove Road in the Don Pedro community about 6:30 a.m.

The first arriving engine reported a double wide mobile home totally involved in fire with some spread to nearby grass. It took personnel from seven engines and a water tender nearly 90 minutes to contain and extinguish the final embers. The mobile home served as living quarters for the manager of Barrett Cove Storage and Lake Shore Ranch.

The suppression effort was complicated by lack of a hydrant system in close proximity to the storage yard. Water was shuttled from the closest hydrant at the corner of Merced Falls Road and Barrett Cove Road.

One resident received burns to the top of her foot while attempting to extinguish the fire. She was treated and released at the scene by Mercy Ambulance personnel. All of the residents escaped the fire but the family dog is currently unaccounted for.
