Unofficial start to summer feels like winter

Jill Ballinger/GAZETTE EDITOR

This weekend may mark the unofficial start of summer, but it feels an awful lot like winter.

The National Weather Service (NWS) is only predicting a high of 63 for Mariposa today. There is a chance of showers and the possibility of thunderstorms this afternoon.

The higher elevations of the county may see light accumulations of snow. The snow level is expected to be around 6,000 feet.

The weekend won't be a total wash, however. Temperatures are expected to warm to the lower 70s on Saturday, and climb above 80 by Monday.

Dry, warm weather is expected throughout next week.
