Susan Rader

Susan Rader, 58, passed away on April 25, in Beaverton, Ore., after a four-year struggle with cancer.

She is survived by her sister, Robin Amos and husband, John; and nieces, Ashley and Whitney Amos. Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Clarice Rader of Mariposa.

Susan was born in Visalia, moved to Mariposa in 1965, and was a 1972 graduate of Mariposa County High School. After high school, she moved to Modesto, attended college and then worked in retail fashion. She married Lee Kelly of Hilmar in 1980, moved to Idaho and later moved to McMinnville, Ore. where they established Kelly’s Sheep Farm. During this time, Susan helped to establish the Beaverton Farmer’s Market, where she sold their farm-raised lamb for several years.

After their divorce and sale of their farm in 2000, she embarked upon a second career as an aesthetician until she was stricken with cancer. Susan’s unwavering spirit is best expressed by these words: “And in the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years."

On May 12, a celebration of life will be held at 10 a.m. at the Church of Christ in Mariposa. In Susan’s memory, her many friends at the farmers’ market will make a donation in her memory to the Beaverton Relay for Life in July. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Susan’s memory to Seattle Cancer Care Alliance P.O. Box 19023, Seattle, WA 98109-1023, or to a charity of one’s choice.
