Escaped burn razes half acre on Highway 49 South

(Dan Tucker | The Gazette)Monday, May 14, 2012 -  Around 11 a.m. this morning firefighters responded to an escaped controlled burn in the 4300 block of Highway 49 South.

By the time first responders arrived about a half acre of brush and timber was involved and the fire was moving through tall grass toward a residence. Mariposa County Sheriff's Depute Justin Sponhaltz helped push a man's small pick-up out of the path of the flames.

There were not reported injuries, and firefighters quickly knocked down the advanced flames.
