Bicycle racer killed on Darrah Road

Jill Ballinger/GAZETTE EDITOR

A Kern County woman competing in a bicycle race on Darrah Road was killed after she crashed into one of the race's official vehicles.

The woman, whose identity has not been released pending notification of family, suffered severe trauma after she apparently hit the van at full speed.

The van was stopped near Montana del Oro to help another racer fix a broken wheel.
