Construction starts on Ashworth turn lane

Jill Ballinger/GAZETTE EDITOR

Caltrans began the construction of the turn lane on Highway 49 South at Ashworth Road today. The project could cause some delays for drivers.

The area has long been a concern of drivers and residents.

“I just think it’s long overdue, because of the accidents and deaths we’ve had in the area,” Supervisor Jim Allen said. “Hopefully, the state will continue to add left turn lanes to make Highway 49 safer.”

Prior to any blasting construction, the Caltrans says it will notify the public. The construction will take place from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Fridays.

The highway may be closed completely at times, for not more than 30 minutes. Construction completion is targeted for July 31.

I haved lived on Ashworth for

I haved lived on Ashworth for 21 years and I do not see any need for a turn lane. Just another excuse to spend county money that isn't there to begin with.
