Cows, people are chilled by persistent storm

Daylong snowfall at spots over 3,000 feet on Friday chilled local livestock and county residents alike.

Several inches of rain fell across lower foothill elevations Thursday and Friday. Video shot in Lushmeadows near the 3,300-ft. mark showed local cattle making the best of a cold, wet day.

At 3:30 p.m. on Friday, the county had experienced no power outages and roads and highways were mostly clear. A 1 p.m. Friday rain total for Mariposa read 1.47 inches. That amount did not include Thursday's total.

"It's been fairly quiet out there, despite the storm," said Don Florence of the county's Office of Emergency Services.

Around 3:30 p.m. on Friday, however, National Weather Service radar showed a strong band of precipitation taking aim at the county.
