Mariposa history featured on public radio

For those citizens interested in a bit of Mariposa history, a fictional tale based upon fact will be broadcast Wednesday April 18, at 7 p.m. by Valley Public Radio, FM 89.3, as part of their Writer's Read program.

The story, in attempting to portray the lives and duties of schoolteachers at the turn of the 20th Century, has as its principal character Miss Julia Jones, superintendent of schools between 1894 to 1912. In addition she is known to have served as Wells Fargo Postmistress, and secretary to the Mariposa County Board of Supervisors.

Information about "Miss Julia's" career was provided by the Mariposa Museum and History Center archives. The museum in addition supplied the background music for the storytelling, known as "My Mariposa Lily."
