Marilyn Louise Fry

Marilyn Louise Frey went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 19. Mama’s angel is survived by siblings, Esther Warnes, Don and JoAnn Fry, Bob and Jenny Fry; her best friend, Diana Hertz; nieces and nephews, Donna Jean, Dianne, Lynn, Daniel, Matthew, Jeff, Kristin and Robert; 16 great and great, great-nieces and nephws, Aunt Betty and cousins.

Born on May 24, 1943, in Glendora, she was the fourth child to Corbie and Vera Fry. At age 2, her family moved to a Caruthers cotton farm. Just as jumping from the hayloft into her brother’s arms showed her trust, so Mariposa parents trusted her to safely deliver their children to and from school. By 1949, she lieved in Fresno where her father co-founded the Rescue Mission. There, she developed her tenor voice that has often been heard harmonizing on the Courthouse lawn. At Fresno High, she joined marching band and girls’ sports. She played for and coached women’s traveling softball teams in the valley.

She moved to Mariposa in 1968. As purchasing agent for the Mariposa County Unified School District, she kept papers and books flowing to students for 32 years. That year, Diana Hertz began the MCHS girls’ sports program. Marilyn volunteered as JV coach and bus driver. After retiring in 2001, she volunteered at the SPCA.

To family, friends and players, Marilyn was an encouraging, key figure in their lives. Alzheimer’s stole her from her family too soon, but she will be lovingly remembered.

The family invites everyone to join them at Happy Burger on March 31 from 2:30 to 5 p.m. to share fellowship and fond memories of Marilyn.

Remembrances should be sent to Frenso Rescue Mission or Mariposa SPCA.

I mentioned to my sister that Marilyn passed away. She was saddened to hear this. I remember her being one of the very sweetest ladies one could ever meet. My condolences to Diana and her family. She was a wonderful lady.
