Who is mystery '49er on County sign?

Mariposa County's board of supervisors have endorsed a new sign design for the billboard that greets eastbound visitors on Highway 140.

Several prominent locals sport beards that might fit the man featured as an 1850s miner at the sign's left border. "Historic & Scenic Mariposa County," the sign will read. "Established in 1850. Mariposa County, home of Yosemite National Park! Welcomes You!"

A clue: the miner model is no stranger around the Mariposa Museum & History Center.

The new billboard is slated to be installed by the end of May.

The correct answer will be revealed the week of Monday, April 9.

That is the gray old grizzily

That is the gray old grizzily bear Ron L from Midpines. One smart feller that old man is. He is the perfect image to represent the colorful history of our beautiful home of Mariposa.
