Mariposa Tea Party group takes on health care legislation

The Mariposa Patriots Tea Party group met Saturday at the Art Park to register its disapproval with President Obama's health care legislation of 2010.

The Rally to Repeal Obama-Care Protest happened at 1 p.m. at the Art Park, near the intersection of 5th Street and Highway 140.

Friday, March 23 was the two-year anniversary of the health care bill's signing.

The rally took place as the U.S. Supreme Court gets ready to debate the law starting on Monday, March 26. Court justices will rule on a challenge brought by 26 states, not including California, that contends the law violates the U.S. Constitution's division of power between the states and the federal government.

The court is expected to rule by late June. Its decision could prevent the law's scheduled implementation in 2014.

If upheld, the law will require Americans to buy health insurance. Estimates suggest the law could bring health care coverage to 30 million Americans who are currently uninsured.

"We do need health care reform, but Obamacare is not the solution," Mariposa Patriots organizer Ronika Johnson said.

Thank You Taxpayers!

Thank You Taxpayers! Obamacare is life! Most Tea Party members I know enjoy their taxpayer funded healthcare through Medicare or the Veterans Administration. Yet, they begrudge the rest of us from having access to the same health care. I cannot get coverage from the profit-driven insurance corporations because I have a "pre-existing" condition. Am I supposed to go bankrupt or just die? Thankfully, my government thought my life was worth saving. I am a very happy Obamacare subscriber. I happily pay my premium back to the taxpayers instead of a private corporation that would rather me be dead.

Our family doesn't have

Our family doesn't have health care, can't afford it. What does the tea party suggest we do? Die?

Isn't requiring everyone to

Isn't requiring everyone to buy private health insurance from the huge private companies what the Tea Party folks want?? I thought you guys want to privatize everything and screw those who are uninsured??
