Mariposa County Superior Court Judge Wayne Parrish more than doubled the bail set for Patricia Moretti at her arraignment on Wednesday morning. She was arrested Tuesday afternoon for71 felony counts that included burglary, grand theft, embezzlement by clerk, embezzlement by government clerk, forgery, and altered government documents.

Moretti was the assistant treasurer, county clerk and tax collector for Mariposa County, a position she was promoted to by current County Clerk Keith Williams in 2006, the same year he was first elected to office.

According to the sheriff’s office investigation, Moretti allegedly stole approximately $104,000 in Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) payments. That investigation revealed over 600 specific instances of theft dating back to September 2006, and occurring as recently as February of this year.

Her original bail was set at $100,000. She remains in custody at the Mariposa County Jail and will appear in court again on April 12.
