Elizabeth ‘Bets’ Strathearn

Elizabeth Ann “Bets” Strathearn passed away in Burlingame, on March 4 at the age of 85. She resided in Mariposa County for 30 years prior to moving to the San Francisco Bay Area in 2007.

She enjoyed her extended family in Mariposa and her rich circle of friends, including those she met while employed at Tavis Corporation, and as a volunteer at the Mariposa Museum and History Center and the Mariposa County Arts Council.

Bets was born in Omaha, Neb. on June 30, 1926. Her family subsequently moved to the Los Angeles area where she graduated from Southgate High School. Following high school she moved to the San Luis Obispo area and worked at Cal Poly University where she met George Strathearn, whom she married in 1950. The ranching life took George and Bets to Tehachapi and Chowchilla and eventually to Mariposa in 1977 following nine years of residence in the Bay Area.

She had two sisters, Patricia and Marilyn, and a brother, Jack, all of whom preceded her in death. Her husband, George, also preceded her in death. She is survived by her son, Scott, his wife, Linda, and their two sons, Brian and Alex; daughter, Nancy, and her husband, Jeff Davis; and son, Skip, and his wife, Nancy.
