McClintock makes Mariposa stop

Congressman Tom McClintock stopped by Mariposa's Senior Activity Center on Tuesday as part of his campaign to become the county's next representative in Congress.

Mariposa's own George Radanovich, who represented local voters in Congress from 1995 to 2011, introduced McClintock on Tuesday evening. McClintock is running for the newly-created U.S. House of Representatives District 4.

Currently, Rep. Jeff Denham represents Mariposa County and surrounding areas in the 19th congressional district. Last month, McClintock came out in support of a petition seeking the addition of a third cable to the two-cable system that guides visitors to Half Dome's summit in Yosemite National Park.

Retired engineer Jack Uppal, a Democrat, is running against McClintock for the 4th congressional district seat. Tuesday's event at the senior center "was a great meeting and loaded with information," local Tea Party activist Ronika Johnson said.

Republicans enjoy a lead of 46 percent to 30 percent over Democrats in Mariposa County.

McClintock is scheduled to speak to the Mariposa Patriots Tea Party organization on April 14, Johnson said.
