Filing deadline for districts 2 and 5 is extended to Wednesday

The filing deadline for board of supervisors candidates in districts 2 and 5 has been extended to Wednesday, March 14. To qualify for the June 5 ballot, candidates must submit 20 valid nominating signatures and a filing fee of $446.97 by 5 p.m.

The candidate filing deadline for other state and local races was March 9. The deadline for the two supervisorial districts is extended because District 2 incumbant Lyle Turpin and District 5 incumbant Jim Allen did not file papers for reelection, deputy county clerk Karen M. Herman explained.

North County's District 2 race is hot with half a dozen candidates in the race. Three candidates have entered the District 5 race for the supervisor--who will represent Wawona, Fish Camp and Ponderosa Basin.
