(Photo Courtesy of Mariposa County Fire Department)Just before 5 PM on Wednesday afternoon, fire resources were called to a structure fire at 5074 Silva Road in the Bootjack area. First arriving units found heavy dark smoke billowing into the sky from the back side of the property. MCFD Engine 37 quickly extended a hoseline to the rear of the two-story structure and found about one third of the wall engulfed in flames. As firefighters were cooling the main fire outside, CAL FIRE personnel entered the home from the front to knock down any extension into the interior. It was a well coordinated attack that resulted in preserving the structural integrity of the home as well as most all furnishings and treasured antiques.

It took 23 responders an additional two hours to ensure all extension into walls and overhead spaces were no longer smoldering. In addition to minor water damage to the living room, the entire home was charged with heavy smoke that will require extensive rehabilitation. Damage to building and contents is estimated at $60,000. There were no firefighter injuries and the cause was attributed to an electrical short.
