Stanley E. Tomerlin

Stanley E. Tomerlin of Mariposa, died Jan. 26, in Modesto.

He was born Dec. 30, 1931, in

Cash, Texas, to Ezelle (Buster) and Laura Tomerlin.

He is survived by his wife, Helga of 57 years, in Mariposa; sons, Stan (Betty) of Maple Grove, Minn., Don (Maureen) of Statesboro, NC, and Jeff of Mariposa. He is also survived by his brother, Ray (Nell) of Oklahoma; sister, Barbara Wilson (Kerry) of Texas; brothers, Mike (Marcie) of California, A.T. (Barbara) of Arizona, and sisters, Louann Picard of Arizona and Audrey Bruce of Michigan. He has many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews throughout the United States.

Stanley was retired from the United States Air Force. After retirement, he worked at the Great Western Jean Factory in Royse City, Tex., and the United States Post Office of Greenville, Tex., as well as Minneapolis, Minn. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in psychology from East Texas State University.

Stanley enjoyed traveling to see and stay connected with his family. His pastime enjoyments consisted of volunteering with the church and painting. When able, he could be found working out at the gym in Mariposa. He also enjoyed storytelling and spending time listening to others. He had a passion for helping others as was evident with his participation in Habitat for Humanity and other work with the Lutheran Church of Mariposa. He had an incredible knack to make all he touched feel as if they were number one, and he was known for his great sense of humor and the ability to help others through his humor and wit.

Stanley had an incredibly kind heart and gift of giving to others. Even in later years, as he suffered with pain, he still could be found helping others. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A celebration of Stanley’s life will be held on March 26, in Mariposa.
