Anita Starchman-Bryant | Contributed Soroptimist International of Mariposa continues to be a major contributor/sponsor for Mountain Crisis Services, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping domestic violence victims in Mariposa County. For over 21 years, Mountain Crisis Services has provided lifesaving domestic violence and sexual abuse prevention, intervention, and recovery services to Mariposa County and neighboring communities.

These services are free and confidential and are designed to help victims on their road to leading violence free lives. Last year alone, MCS assisted approximately 250 individuals who suffered domestic violence of sexual assault, and helped them rebuild their lives.

Of those 250 individuals, 231 received counseling, 81 received after-hours services, 100 were provided shelter and 200 received legal services. MCS’s staff is on call 24-hours a day, 365 days a year, to assist with emergency domestic violence and sexual assault incidents.

Soroptimist is an international volunteer organization for business and professional women who work to improve the lives of women and girls in local communities and throughout the world. The Mariposa Club achieves this mission locally by giving scholarships to graduating seniors, presenting monetary awards to women that are the heads of their households seeking further education, and donating funds and services to organizations such as Ethos Youth Center, Manna House and Heritage House.
