Mary Ellen McRae | Contributed A new class of square dance lessons will begin at the Bootjack Stompers Hall across from the fairgrounds on Tuesday, Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. and continue each Tuesday evening.

The club caller is Rachel Phillips of Groveland, and she teaches each step clearly, slowly and makes it fun. The first three weeks are free to participants. After that, it is only $3 per person each week or $7.50 maximum for a family.

Square dancing is a great activity for young and old, ages 9 to 90, men and women, singles, couples and families. It provides light, low-impact exercise for both the mind and the body and allows participants to socialize with old friends and make new friends. Experienced dancers will help you learn each call.

Line dancing is held from 6 until 7 p.m. on Tuesday evenings before the square dance class. Cheri Ridenhour is the line dance instructor. Line dancers are welcome to drop in at any time throughout the year for only $4 per evening.

For more information, contact Phyllis Richardson, club past president, at 966- 7579 or Alton McRae at 966-3925.
