The Mariposa County Chamber of Commerce will honor its business man, business woman and business of the year at this Friday’s annual installation dinner.

The business of the year is Pioneer Market, owned by the Dubberke Family. Dieter and Diane Dubberke moved to Mariposa in 1978 with their four sons. They originally opened a minimart, followed by the original Pioneer Market, where China Station is now located.

In 1984, the Dubberkes brought Mariposa its first real supermarket in the 30,000 square foot store that remains today. The Dubberke’s son, Jason, became a partner in 2004, and the improvements began.

Most recently, the store has remodeled, expanded and now brings Mariposa “a real big city type store.” Pioneer Market now boasts a pharmacy, deli, uprgraded meat, bakery and floral departments.

The Dubberke family has long been a supporter of just about every charity event in Mariposa County. They are the foremost contributor to Pioner Market Grizzly Stadium, hold an annual golf tournament for high school athletics and sponsor the Sports Challenge fundraising program.

Jason Dubberke said his family’s company is dedicated to Mariposa. Future plans include continuing to grow and improve to meet the community’s needs.

Su Carney, owner of Yosemite Gifts, is the business woman of the year. She “fell in love” with Mariposa when she came to sell her jewelry at the Oakhurst Peddlers’ Fair. She originally opened Dial’s Rock Shop, but moved to downtown Mariposa in 2001, opening Yosemite Gifts on July 4, 2002.

Carney plans to begin offering jewelry making classes and has recently started an online store and runs the Souvenir Shack.

Carney caters to local customers and visitors from all over the world. She believes success is summed up by this philosophy, “Stay positive, act with integrity. There is no problem without a solution.”

Carney also supports many local fundraising efforts, including the American Cancer Society. She is also a member of the Mariposa Jeep Club.

Matthew Hamlett, owner of Partners in Grime Cleaning, is the youngest recipient to ever be honored as business man of the year. He has been in Mariposa for a year and a half, having moved here to be near his parents and raise his children.

His business quickly grew. He now cleans 10 vacation rentals, has six custodial jobs, and maintains many other regular clients. Partners in Grime grew from a $500 investment to a projected gross of $150,000 a year.

Hamlett would like to see his business continue to grow into a “superior cleaning company that meets requests above and beyond customers’ expectations, crediting a reputation of excellence to consistent, high quality work.”

He is US Navy veteran,
