Paul Ray Downs

Paul Ray Downs of Spring Creek, Nev., sadly passed away unexpectedly on Jan. 1, due to a four-wheeler accident. He was 39.

Paul was born to Frank and Patricia Downs on March 4, 1972, in Mariposa. Paul attended Woodland Elementary, Mariposa Junior High and graduated from Mariposa County High School in 1990.

Paul met his future wife, Stephanie Hull, in 1991 in Reno, Nev. where they married in 1992. Paul earned his degree in automotive technology from Wyoming Technical Institute (Wyotech) in 1993.

Paul and Stephanie were blessed with a daughter in 1994, and a son in 1997. Shelby Lynn, age 17, and Troy Ray, age 14, have been a great joy and pride for Paul and Stephanie. Paul was a loving and supportive father who was very involved with his children's 4-H projects, sports and activities.

An avid houndsman and hunter, Paul founded and was president of the Nevada Houndsman Association. He was an active member of his community and greatly loved by his friends. He worked as a mechanic for the Elko County School District.

Paul was respected and loved for his deep kindness, interest in others and generosity. He will be greatly missed by his wife, children, sisters, family and friends. Paul's best friend and father-in-law Bill Hull and his friend and mother-in-law have been supporting Stephanie at this difficult time.

Paul is survived by his loving wife, Stephanie; daughter, Shelby; son, Troy; grandfather, John Downs; sister, Judy Perry and husband Chris; sister, Joanna Palmer and husband Matthew; sister-in-law, Kim Dawson; six nieces, three nephews and three great-nephews. Paul's father and mother both preceded him in death.

A funeral service was held Jan. 7, in Elko, Nev.

A memorial and potluck lunch will be held on Saturday Jan. 21, at 11 a.m. at Mariposa County Park to honor Paul with family and friends who were unable to attend the funeral in Elko. Stephanie, Shelby and Troy are looking forward to seeing family and friends at this time.

In lieu of flowers, a bank account has been established for the Downs Family and donations can be mailed to Nevada State Bank, P.O. Box 325, Eureka, Nev.
