Paul J. Halencak, Sr.

Paul J. Halencak, Sr. passed away with his loved ones by his side Sept. 25.

Paul was born to Charles and Louise Halencak, on Feb. 9, 1934, in Vernon, Tex. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Following the war he moved to Exeter, where he met the love of his life, Shirley Annette Smith. They soon married and relocated to Mariposa, where they started their family and raised their four sons, Joe, Jerry, Tom, and Phillip. Paul owned and operated Sierra Motors. Paul served as a reserve deputy in the Mariposa County Sheriff's Department, and was very active in the Lion's Club and VFW.

Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley and son, Jerry. Paul is survived by his sons and their families: Joe and Morgann of Mariposa, Tom and Kim of Los Angeles, and Phillip and Renee of Sonora; 11 grandchildren: Darren, Jason, Amy, Ashley, Megan, Katelyn, Wyatt, Paige, Cody, Brandon and Ariel; and three great-grandchildren, Faith, Coby and Brooke.

A vigil is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 29 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at Mariposa Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be held Friday, Sept. 30 at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Graveside will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. A reception will follow.
