Joseph M. O’Neal

Joseph M. O’Neal was born

July 15, 1930, in Chicago, Ill.

He was one of six children. He died Sept. 9.

Joe served four years in the Air Force, which led to his interest in flying that took him and his family many places. He met and married Audrey Gill in 1953, and they had six children.

The O’Neals lived in Kentucky and Indiana and moved to Milpitas in 1963, and then to their home of 26 years in Boulder Creek. They have lived in Mariposa since 1994.

Joe was employed with Lockheed Missiles and Space Co. in Sunnyvale for 31 years and retired to Mariposa. He served on the Airport Advisory Committee for several years. He also served on the Mariposa County Grand Jury for one year.

He was a Baja Bush Pilot and spent considerable time taking supplies to an orphanage there. He loved to hunt and fish and travel anywhere, anytime. He was a beloved husband and father.

Joe was preceded in death by his daughter, Nancy O’Neal; and grandson, Scott.

He is survived by his wife, Audrey O’Neal of Mariposa; children, Anita Disney of Mariposa, Michael O’Neal of El Nido, James O’Neal of Mariposa, Joseph B. O’Neal of Discovery Bay, and Dean O’Neal of Ben Lomond; grandchildren, Matthew, Mark, Jennifer, Sharon, Bryon, Kylie and Sara; and great-grandchildren, Steven, Molly, Elijah, Keeley, RayAnn and Joey.

Memorial services are planned for Saturday, Oct. 8 at New Life Christian Fellowship at 11 a.m.
