Preble Franklin

Preble Franklin, mother, world traveler, dedicated volunteer and lifelong believer and follower of the Baha’i World Faith, passed peacefully on July 16 at age 77, surrounded by her loving children singing her favorite songs.

Preble was born and raised in

Washington State. She moved to California to attend college at San Francisco State and work in the insurance industry. She met and married Jack Franklin, a record storeowner.

Together they began a family and owned and operated two pet stores. After her four children began attending school, she resumed her academic studies, receiving a bachelor of science degree in speech-communication and a master of business administration from San Jose State University.

She worked in a variety of companies and organizations throughout her career, including insurance, retail and wholesale, and pension administration. She retired from the wine industry as an office manager in 2010. She considered her biggest accomplishment her caring children and a close-knit family.

Preble had an insatiable appetite for a good book. She was an avid reader of mystery books, attending many mystery writers conventions and she belonged to a book club and writers group. She loved to travel, circling the globe many times “punching her bucket list.” Her fondest memories were of Costa Rica, China and the Canadian Rockies.

Preble was a tireless and dedicated community volunteer. For over 20 years she sang as a member of the Pacific Empire Chorus of Sweet Adelines International, where she also handled all travel arrangements for 120 members during their many award winning national competitions. She was known for her well-organized style and positive attitude. Most recently she became a Chapter member of the fledgling Song of Sonoma Chorus of Sweet Adelines International, enjoying more awards and one more encore before her final journey.

Preble was preceded in death by her father, Justin Stauter; mother, Hazel Weed Mori; and grandson, Todd Follansbee. She is survived by her brother, Paul Stoddard; her four children, Cheryl Franklin, Glenn Franklin, Ninya Franklin Follansbee, and John-Henry Franklin; two grandchildren, Leanna Follansbee Habana and Jason Franklin; and two great-grandchildren, Bryice Follansbee and Miles Connor Franklin.

Warm, generous and fun loving, she was loved by many whose hearts she touched-touched by the many hearts she loved. What a truly amazing woman she was. She will be remembered, and she will be missed

She enjoyed your flowers while she was here. She requested that you please make a memorial contribution to Memorial Hospice of Santa Rosa.

Family graveside services are complete. Funeral arrangements were handled by Fred Young Funeral Home, Santa Rosa.

A celebration of life for Preble will be held Saturday, Sept. 10, at 1 p.m. at the Rohnert Park Senior Center, 6800 Hunter Drive, Rohnert Park.
