Alice Spencer

Alice Spencer, 93, passed away at home July 2, with her family by her side in Mariposa.

At her request, no service will be held.

Alice was born Oct. 25, 1917, in Hollywood, to C.D. Lau, a dentist and Josephine Sanger Lau, a writer. She graduated from Hollywood High School in 1936 and continued her education in Hollywood where she studied to become a nurse. She later married Duncan Spencer, an artist, in 1940.

Alice and her husband Duncan moved to Mariposa over 40 years ago. She enjoyed gardening, canning, reading, knitting and above all else she loved to learn. She traveled the world and lived a long healthy life.

She is survived by her daughter, Cindy Smith of Long Branch, Wash.; grandson and granddaughterin law, William and Monika Brandle of Mariposa; great-grandchildren, John Brandle, William Brandle, Francine Landry, Natasha Lopez and Cheyenne Lopez; great-great-grandchildren, Dakota Landry and John Hetherington XII; nieces, Chris Fredlund and Linda Lau; nephew, David Lau; and special friend, Merle Wood.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Duncan Spencer; sister, Jean Rarig; and brother, James Lau.

She will greatly be missed.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the outstanding staff at John C. Fremont Hospital Emergency Room, acute care nursing station, hospice and Jessica Gauthier for their support.

I was just wondering about

I was just wondering about her the other day... I had been by to see her not too long ago, but she was taking a nap. She was loving... So was Duncan... They will be greatly missed... Rest in peace sweet Alice! What a wonderful lady!
