George Delbert (Del) Dice

Delbert went to be with his Savior June 8, in Mariposa. He was 93 years old. He was born June 23, 1917, in Visalia, to George Ernest and Della (Potter) Dice. He was retired from the South San Joaquin Irrigation District in Manteca, as a division manager and was loved by all of his co-workers, ranchers and farmers.

He married Constance (Connie) Lorance on Nov. 28, 1964. They made their home in Manteca, Twain Harte, and for the last 21 years in Mariposa.

Delbert is survived by his wife, Connie. He is also survived by four children: Janet Locke, Silver Springs, Nev.; David Dice, Oakdale; Judy Rice, St. Joseph, Mo., and Lisa Ranson, Lawton, Okla. He had 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

His most enduring love was for the outdoors and his family. He was happiest with a fishing rod or hunting rifle in his hand. He was always quick to help others, especially families with small children. Del will be remembered for his sense of humor, smile, and how hard he worked to support his family.

The family would like to thank the loving, tender care that was provided in the years and months that he was a resident of the Ewing Wing of the John C. Fremont Hospital where they fondly called him “Captain.” He had a nickname for all of his caregivers. The family would also like to thank the members of First Baptist Church, Mariposa for the cards, phone calls, prayers, and visits preceding his passing.

He was remembered privately by his family by the sharing of memories, song, prayer, and scripture reading in the days preceding his home going. Donations, in lieu of flowers can be made in his honor to the Ewing Wing of John C. Fremont Hospital in Mariposa.
