Kelly Lee Hoffman

Kelly Lee Hoffman passed away at home in Mariposa on Dec. 18. Kelly was born in Chicago, Ill. on June 23, 1948.

Kelly served in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1970, during which time he was stationed in South Korea. Upon discharge from the Army, he lived in Southern California where he was vice president of Cirtec Corp, which manufactured computer circuit boards. In 1983, growing tired of the big city rat race, Kelly elected to relocate with his former wife, Barbara, and children to Mariposa. Even though he gave up a lucrative job in the big city, Kelly happily worked on and off at the Miner’s Inn Restaurant for 25 years with the peace of mind knowing that his children were being raised in a safer environment. When he wasn’t working at the restaurant, you could find him working on his beautiful lawn, garden and plants. He also helped many people of Mariposa maintain their beautiful gardens.

Kelly was an avid animal lover, raising everything from birds, pigs, cows and sheep. However, the word “avid” doesn’t begin to describe his love of all animals. In fact, while commuting from Southern California, Kelly arrived home to Mariposa with a small dairy cow in the back seat of the brand new family car.

Kelly is survived by the woman who meant the world to him, his wife, Sharlee Burger-Hoffman; his children, Jennifer Huskey of Mariposa, Kelly Hoffman of Colorado, Charles Hoffman, Hannah Key and Hogan Key, all of Mariposa. He is survived by numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, brothers and many others. He is also leaving behind his best friend, his dog, “George.”

Funeral services will be private, however, family and friends will be gathering at Miner’s Inn Restaurant on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2011, at 11 a.m. to celebrate and remember Kelly’s life.
