Interesting! I live in the heart of Coulterville. It truly is "The town to tough to die". The Hotel Jeffery is a prime example of how the town remains a true wild west town. It has been closed since May 2010. The last people to run the hotel put a tremendous amount of money in trying to turn it into something it never was. Instead of protecting her wonderful history and structure they put it into trying to attract people looking for a place to party. Loud bands and drunks on the sidewalk did not reflect the identity of the town and soon the hotel lost its appeal to tourists looking for the old western experience. The party crowd also became bored with the lack of other services in the town and Coulterville returned to its quiet self. It now hopefully awaits owners interested in sharing Coultervilles rich history. The town is proud of its history. If you come to Coulterville just feel free to talk to any of the locals. Spring is one of our best times. The wildflowers just outside town are breathtaking. The town gets no help fom the county, they are to busy paying high salaries and modernizing Mariposa County. Coulterville has its own Master Plan within the County Master Plan that protects it against modernization.
