Farm Bureau plans for its annual dinner
The Mariposa County Farm Bureau will hold its Annual dinner, dance and auction on Saturday Oct. 9, in building “A” at the Mariposa County Fairgrounds. DJ Ted Dwyer will be providing the musical entertainment. The local Farm Bureau is very active in the community supporting agriculture issues that include land use, taxation, individual property rights and natural resources.
The Mariposa County Farm Bureau continues to provide college scholarships to Mariposa County High School graduating seniors that are continuing on with their agriculture education. This year the organization was proud to award a $750 scholarship. The Farm Bureau is also a supporter of the local FFA program and, it supports local 4-H youth with annual contributions to the Ag in the Classroom program.
Ag in the Classroom reaches over 1,300 students in Mariposa County due to the efforts of Donna Wice, 4- H coordinator. In past years the Mariposa County Farm Bureau has purchased chick incubators and swine kits along with other educational equipment for the local 4-H clubs to use with their various projects. The Farm Bureau supports the Junior Livestock Auction every year at the county fair.
The social hour begins at 5 p.m. with hors d’oeuvres followed by a tri-tip dinner at 6 p.m. Attendees can bid on the silent auction items in the early evening, with the live auction following the dinner. The featured raffle prize this year will be a handmade bench featuring brands from local members, and a special door prize that will be raffled off later in the evening.
Tickets are only $25 each for adults and children 12 and under admitted free. Community members can purchase tickets by calling the Farm Bureau office at 742-5875 on Tuesdays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and they will also be available at the door the evening of the dinner.
