Annual fly-in set this month
The 11th annual Mariposa- Yosemite Airport Fly-in will be held Saturday, Sept. 25 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. If it rains, the event will be moved to Oct. 2.
Visitors can look at vintage, home-built and antique airplanes. Kids can take a ride with a local pilot as a Young Eagles flyer and meet local pilots.
The event is sponsored by the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Chapter. The whole community is invited, and admission is free. Dozens of home-built, classic antique aircraft will be on display.
The EAA Chapter will be registering Young Eagles for familiarization flights. The program is designed to expose young people between the ages of 8 and 18 to aviation and related careers. With parent permission, a local EAA member pilot will take the child for a ride.
The Young Eagle will be given a certificate and a photo of him/her with the pilot and the plane they rode in. They will be given a pilot’s log book and a number which can be used to enroll them in an online course which will qualify them to sit for the private pilot’s written test. Other children’s activities include building and flying bottle rockets and the flight simulator.
There will be a raffle with prizes. Max’s tri-tip lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., as will hot dogs, and a pancake breakfast put on by the Mt. Bullion Fire Department from 8 to 10 a.m. Commemorative t-shirts will be on sale.
Free shuttle bus service will be provided between West- America Bank and the airport for those who would prefer to avoid the cramped parking at the airport.
