Pioneer’s golf tourney slated

By Dan Tucker, Gazette Publisher

The always popular Pioneer Market and Pharmacy Sports Challenge golf tournament will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 6 at Sierra Meadows Country Club in Ahwahnee.

This fourth annual tournament is an full-day event and all proceeds benefit Mariposa County High School athletic departments. Last year the event raised over $25,000.

The individual entry fee of $150 includes a continental breakfast, green fees, a golf cart, use of the driving range, beverages throughout the day, access to the tequila and shrimp cocktail booths, lunch erved on the course, a tri-tip dinner, along with awards and raffle prizes.

On the “Vegas hole,” anyone firing a hole-in-one can win a 2011 Chevrolet, Ford, or BMW.

There is an unusual twist to the team prizes. First place pays $200, second place $300, and third place $400. There are also prizes for the longest drive and closest to the pin. Mulligans are available for $5 each, or five for $20.

Check-in is between 7:30 amd 8:30 a.m. with 9 a.m. as the tee time. The format is a foursome best ball scramble and the dinner will be held immediately following play.
