Roberson's aerial assault upends Grizzlies, 32-12

2010-09-02 / Sports

Summerville's highly-touted senior quarterback Zach Roberson plundered Mariposa defensive secondary to spoil the Grizzlies' hoe opener in Pioneer Market Grizzly Stadium Thursday night, 32-12.

The Bears rolled to a 20-0 advantage at the intermission, moving the ball almost at will through the air and on the ground.

The Grizzlies scored a pair of touchdown late in the game on short TD runs by the Kinalele brothers, Justin and Brandon.

The MCHS junior varsity squad lost its contest in the final minute of the game, 13-7, after taking an early 7-0 lead.

Dan Tucker and the stadium

Dan Tucker and the stadium committee... simply outstanding work. It is amazing at how much and how quickly that the field has come over the summer. The playing surface was better than I expected, and far better than the Gold-Bowl ever was. I understand that the bleachers are temporary, and once the permanent ones are built most of the problems encountered last night will be resolved. The visitors side bleachers are virtually unusable, just too low and can't see over the players on the sideline. First 3 or so rows in the home-side bleachers have the same problem. School also did a good job, 1st time in a new facility. Good crowd control, and parking wasn't as bad as I thought it might be. Do need a separation between the players and crowd, even if only a rope. Also, having the Cheerleaders in the endzone didn't cut it... maybe move them up near the band. Speaking of which, the band was outstanding... as always. But, all said and done... it was a great experience, and everyone concerned should be proud. Doc
