Jack W. Vaughan

Jack W. Vaughn was born Dec. 29, 1932, and passed away Aug. 25 at Oak Terrace Care Facility in Soulsbyville.

Jack was born in Bakersfield, to Frank Lester and Clarabelle Fulwiler Vaughn. They lived in Hanford, where he attended Hanford High School, excelling in track, football, and basketball.

He joined the US Army, serving in the Korean War as a high speed radio operator, monitoring the Chinese troop movements along the coast. He was honorably discharged in 1957.

Jack returned to Hanford and attended Fresno State College and worked with his brother, Dave Vaughn's, grocery store.

Jack met his wife, Sharon, in Oakland, and they were married March 18, 1961, and have been married for more than 49 wonderful years. Once married, Jack and his wife, Sharon returned to Hanford and began a partnership with his brother. They then moved to Mariposa where they opened his first grocery store "Jack's California Market." A second partnership with Darryl and Romelle Christensen opened up many new ideas and new business adventures.

Jack was an avid golfer, pilot, who loved riding motorcycles, RVing, camping, traveling, square dancing, and most of all his friends and family.

He was a member of the American Legion, NRA, and co-chaired electing Ronald Reagan as governor of California.

He was preceded in death by his son, Steven; father and mother.

Jack is survived by his wife, Sharon Vaughn of Jamestown; his oldest son, Scott (wife, Kathi) of Stockton, their two daughters, Stephanie (husband Thomas), and Samantha Patterson; granddaughters, Lexci and Leah from the Stockton/Lodi area, Charlie Kern of Santa Rosa; his youngest son, Devin (wife Bonnie) of Hidden Valley Lake; grandsons, Steven and Justin Vaughn of Santa Rosa; his older brother Dave (wife Jackie) Vaughn of Arroyo Grande; nephew, Dan Vaughn of Pinecrest; and two nieces, Val (husband Alan) Barber, and Kim Bram both of Twain Harte.

No funeral service (at Jack's request) will be held, but a celebration of Jack's life will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 1, at 3 p.m. at Mountain Springs Golf Course.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations could be made to Children's Hospital Central California, PO Box 1248, Madera, CA 93639 and/or to Hospice of the Sierra at 20100 Cedar Road North, Sonora, CA, 95370.
