Rothfuss injured in motorcycle accident
Long-time business owner and community member Stan Rothfuss was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident on Friday, Aug. 20. The accident happened on Highway 49 South near Old Highway.
According to California Highway Patrol Officer Chris Michael, Rothfuss was driving southbound around 4:15 p.m. when he lost control of the motorcycle and went down. He broke his leg in the crash.
Rothfuss’s daugher, Heather Barrett said a woman in a light colored sedan turned in front of her father. “He avoided hitting her. She drove away and did not stop,” Barrett said. She explained that her father laid his Harley Davidson down and landed against the guard rail.
While there have been reports that a car turned off Old Highway into Rothfuss’s path, the CHP has yet to corroborate that information. The accident remains under investigation, and there were no alcohol or drugs involved.
Rothfuss has a broken knew, tibia and fibula and a fractured wrist. He underwent surgery on Saturday and is now home and in external traction. Barrett said he is scheduled to go back for a second surgery in about 10 days. More surgeries are possible in the future.
He is an experienced rider and the owner of Stan’s Body Shop in Mariposa. In addition, Rothfuss has been active in supporting a number of community activities, most especially the Mariposa Fish and Game Protective Association. He has also volunteered with countless other organizations.
