Robert J. Dworak
Robert J. Dworak of Mount Desert Island, ME and Mariposa, passed away the evening of Sunday, Aug. 8, at John C. Fremont Hospital in Mariposa after a two-year battle with cancer.
Born in Los Angeles on April 23, 1943, Robert completed a doctorate in public finance and taxation from the University of Southern California (USC) and held positions in higher education as a professor and graduate school dean. More recently he worked as a certified public accountant with a practice emphasizing small business and personal finance.
He was an active volunteer in local not-forprofit organizations including the Mount Desert Island Hospital and the Mount Desert Island Community Health Plan Board, the Investment Advisory Committee of the Treasurer of the State of Maine, the Investment Committee of the Town of Mount Desert and numerous other organizations. Robert is the author of “Taxpayers, Taxes and Government Spending: Perspectives on the Taxpayer Revolt” as well as numerous articles and publications.
Robert remained an avid fan of the USC Trojans and never missed watching a football game.
Robert leaves behind a loving family including his wife, Marcia; son, Jim Zielinski, daughter Susan Driscoll; granddaughter, Kate Driscoll; aunt, Anne Licini; and cousin, Mary Hill. His extended family includes George Driscoll, Laura and Daniel Cohn, Dan Liu, Tory and William Songyang, Elizabeth Lokocz, Nina and Jonathan Gormley, and Rae and Eloy Sanchez.
Contributions in Robert’s memory may be made to the John C. Freemont Hospital, 5189 Hospital Road, Mariposa, CA 95338. He received skilled and loving care from all of the staff there during the last year.
Private family services have been held.
