Butterfly Festival needs volunteers
A Butterfly Festival volunteer committee meeting will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 25 in the meeting room at the Miner’s Inn. Planning for the 2011 festival is in full swing.
The 2011 festival is set for April 29, 30 and May 1. The Little Miss Butterfly and Captain Caterpillar costume contest will be held Sunday, April 17. Students will release the butterflies that they have raised on Friday, April 22.
The festival is organized by volunteers from the community and most funds for the events are raised privately. The festival has the support of the Mariposa County Board of Supervisors. It covers the liability insurance and waives the fees for the use of parks and permits. The tourism board provided some funding, but the majority of the funds have been raised through private donations.
Last year’s festival was a success, providing a familyfriendly weekend event. The festival gave a boost to the local economy and opened the eyes of many out of town visitors.
This year the festival will grow. Along with growth comes the need for more volunteers.
The opportunity for volunteers starts immediately. The organization of the 2011 festival is already in place.
During this meeting, volunteers will have the opportunity to choose how they would like to serve. There is a need for anyone who wants to be a part of the festival.
