Special postmark marks quarter issue

The Yosemite Post Office offered a special pictorial Yosemite National Park postmark in conjunction with the first day of issuance for the Yosemite quarter.

The quarter, showing the iconic 3,000 foot tall El Capitan monolith, is the third in the United State Mint’s issuance of America the Beautiful coins.

The ceremony was held on Thursday morning at 11 a.m. Yosemite Postmaster Bill Carroll was on hand to provide pictorial postmark cancellations in front of the Yosemite Village Visitors Center. In addition to the postmark there was music, cake, and an opportunity for the public to purchase up to $100 in new Yosemite quarters.

Following the ceremony, Carroll was honored for his 40 years of service to the United States Postal Service.
