A.W. 'Bill' Jones

A.W. “Bill” Jones, a long-time Mariposa resident, passed away July 11.

Bill was born in Spokane, Wash. on March 31, 1919. While serving in the Coast Guard during World War II, he met Maxine Olsen, who became his bride in 1944. They moved to Mariposa in 1953.

Bill belonged to the Mariposa United Methodist Church and was a past master of the Mariposa Masonic Lodge. He retired in 1975 after a distinguished career of 28 years with the California Division of Foresty (now CAL FIRE.)

His beloved wife, Maxine, preceded him in death. Bill is survived by three sons: Tom and wife Susie of Oakhurst, Wes of Gazelle, and Ray and wife Toni of Merced; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at the Mariposa Funeral Home on Aug. 7 at 1 p.m.
