Olympic qualifier swims with Marlins
MEMBERS OF THE MARIPOSA MARLINS HAVE SHARED POOL TIME WITH FIVE NATIONAL CALIBER SWIMMERS. ON JULY 7, SOME OF THE MARLINS JOINED THEM IN AN OPEN SWIM AT BASS LAKE.
The Mariposa Marlins were in for a treat when they arrived at their morning swim practice on June 28, in Oakhurst. A qualifier for the U.S. Olympic swim trials, Zane Grothe, and five national swimmers were training at Baker Swim Complex at the same time the Marlins held their morning summer practice.
These five young men swim for the Boulder Creek – Henderson Swim Club in Las Vegas and are accompanied by Junior National Coach Debbie Meek. They are visiting the area on vacation for two weeks and as competitive athletes, needed to continue their daily trainings in preparation for their national and sectional championship meets in early August.
Marlins head coach Tammy Kudela said, “Sharing pool time side-by-side with this national caliber team has brought so many benefits to our team these past two weeks. Coach Meek invited three of our top male swimmers, Drew Tapia, Wes Kudela, and Ian Whalley, to join them during their workouts.”
Kudela continued, “What an honor for these boys. In addition, she invited several more members of our team to join them in an open water swim around Bass Lake on July 7. This has really been an inspirational and motivational experience for all of our Marlin swimmers and coaches.”
