Marlins honor Phillips and Garrett

The Marlins recognize Christine Garrett (age 10) and Walker Phillips (age 12) as their Swimmers of the Week for their performances at the Marlins’ dual swim meet that was held in Chowchilla on June 14. At this meet Walker, a third season Marlin, improved his times in every one of his events. He finished his 50-yard backstroke in 48.67 seconds, cutting his best time by 0.53 seconds which allowed him to place second in his race. His 50-yard freestyle time improved by 2.42 seconds, enabling him to complete the event in 38.54 seconds and capture a fifth place finish.
Walker’s greatest improvements occurred in his 50-yard butterfly event. His efforts to perfect his stroke technique in practice paid off at this meet. He cut his best time by 3.19 seconds, coming in with a time of 43.40 seconds and finishing in fourth place. Walker is the son of Sean and Lauri Phillips and brother to Audrey and Dawson, both are current Marlin swimmers.
WALKER PHILLIPS
Christine, has been swimming for the Marlins for four years and is the daughter of Clayton and Lisa Garrett, and sister to Triana, who is also a veteran swimmer. At this dual meet, Christine had an incredible showing. She placed first in every one of her events. She finished her 50- yard butterfly in 45.17 seconds. She improved her 50-yard freestyle by 0.45 seconds, completing her race in 37.33 seconds. Her 44.33 second finishing time for her 50-yard backstroke event was also a life-time best, improving her previous time by 1.26 seconds. Both swimmers are commended by the Marlins staff for their efforts which allowed them to achieve their personal best swims at this meet.
