Newman and Cummings recognized
EMMA NEWMAN
The Mariposa Marlins recognize two athletes as Swimmers of the Week. The awards go to 6-year-old, Emma Newman, and Geep Cummings, age 8.
Newman is recognized for her efforts in the Hilmar-Mariposa dual swim meet that was held at the Hilmar pool on June 5. During this meet, she cut her 25-yard backstroke time by over 40 seconds allowing her to place third, and her 25-yard freestyle time by over 12 seconds allowing her to place first. She also placed first overall in her age group for her 25-yard breaststroke event.
Newman is a third-year Marlin swimmer, and is the daughter of Marcus and Amy Newman. The coaching staff commends her for her efforts and appreciates her dedication to the team and the sport of swimming.
Cummings is a first-year swimmer with exceptional determination. He is especially commended by the coaching staff for his excellent first time swim at the Hilmar-Mariposa dual meet in his 25-yard breaststroke event, earning second place overall in his age group.
He is also recognized for his willingness to swim a leg in a relay with older swimmers which required him to swim double the distance he is accustomed to. Cummings met this challenge without any difficulty. He is the son of George and Ginny Cummings, and brother to Eleanor, Van, Lucy, and Alice Cummings who are all Marlin swimmers.
