Teen injured in bike accident

A 18- year-old girl is recovering from injuries she sustained in a bicycle crash on Ben Hur Road on Monday morning. The teen, Nicole Scott, was flown to Memorial Hospital in Modesto for treatment.

Scott was part of the group, named “deCycles,” which is a 40- year-old interfaith Christian program based in Bloomington, Ind. They traveled to Mariposa as part of their tour on Saturday. They were hosted by the Mariposa United Methodist Church and others.

The girl reportedly swerved to miss a pothole on Ben Hur Road when she crashed and struck her head on a rock. She was wearing a helmet.

A deputy at the scene reported the girl as conscious immediately following the accident. When she was being transported to the hospital, medics originally called it a “priority three” transport. Before they reached town, however, it was upgraded to a “code three” response. The girl was stabilized at John C. Fremont Hospital before being taken to Modesto.

No information on her condition was available.
