Soroptimist International of Mariposa held its annual installation of officers event on June 13, at the home of long-standing member Elna Philbert. Prior to the installation ceremony Philbert took members on a tour of her well-known gardens.

The event was planned by installation committee member Dee Carr. For the benefit of all members, Carr described the duties of each office as she installed the new officers. The installation ceremony concluded with the presentation of the president’s pin to President Patricia Wight. Wight will hold the office of president for the next two years, at which time President-Elect Mary Ann Johnson will take Wight’s place. The other 2010-2011 officers are as follows: Secretary Angela Heiss, Assistant Secretary Beverly Suggs, Treasurer and Charter Member, Barbara Parker, Assistant Treasurer, Dianne Vereschagin; one-year Director Sherry Gorham; two-year Director, Gwen Nitta, and two-year Director Anita Starchman Bryant.

Soroptimist is an international volunteer organization for business and professional women who work to improve the lives of women and girls in local communities and throughout the world. In addition to participating in international projects, the Mariposa Club achieves this mission locally by giving scholarships to graduating seniors, presenting monetary awards to women that are the heads of their households seeking further education, and donating funds and services to Mountain Crisis.
