Butler released from hospital

MIKE BUTLER MIKE BUTLER Mike Butler, who was injured in a hang gliding accident in Yosemite National Park on June 10, has been released from the hospital. According to his son Elijah, Butler returned to Mariposa on Monday.

Butler is not out of the woods yet, however. Elijah said his father is waiting about four weeks to learn if surgery will be necessary to treat his broken back. Butler was hang gliding with two other pilots on a less than ideal day. Winds were sporadic and the meadow where the trio was to land was flooded. The two other pilots landed safely and were videotaping Butler’s landing when the crash happened.

A benefit to help with medical expenses has been set for July 24, and volunteers are needed. Anyone interested in volunteering can call Elijah at (805) 260-3978. The family can also be reached at mbutler@sti.net

“We’re asking for prayers and support,” Elijah said on Monday. “Please keep him in your thoughts.”
